Class 11 CommerceHow to Start Class 11 Commerce the Right Way
By Pranav Golechha, CA · Updated 20 October 2026
Many students treat Class 11 as a warm-up year and wake up in Class 12 with a gap they cannot fill. I tell every Class 11 student the same thing: the foundation you build this year decides how hard next year feels.
Why Class 11 matters more than it looks
Class 11 is when you learn the language of commerce: journal entries, ledgers and trial balances in Accountancy, the basic ideas of business and management in Business Studies, and the tools of Economics. Class 12 builds on all of it. A student who has these clear moves fast. A student who does not spends the whole of Class 12 catching up.
What to focus on, subject by subject
- Accountancy. Do not memorise. Understand why each entry is a debit or a credit. Practise a full cycle, from journal to trial balance, until it feels routine.
- Business Studies. Learn the terms and their examples. Start writing answers in points from the first chapter.
- Economics. Get comfortable with the basic ideas and with reading graphs and data. Everything later depends on them.
- English. Read something every day and write something every week. Writing and grammar improve only through practice.
A routine that is realistic
You do not need eight hours a day. You need one focused hour, at a fixed time, six days a week. Study one subject at a time. Revise the previous day's topic for ten minutes before you begin the new one. After every chapter, solve ten questions by hand.
Do not wait for the exam to ask for help
If a chapter is slipping away, ask for help in the first week, not the last. One confused topic turns into three confused topics very quickly. A good teacher can fix in a day a gap that takes a month to fix alone.
My Class 11 CBSE batch is live and online, with all four subjects taught by me personally.
